Why Manchester Airport?
The airport’s route network has expanded rapidly in the past few years and is continuing to do so giving a truly global reach. This is achieved through regular long haul scheduled and chartered passenger flights, and through a quickly expanding freighter network. There is high capacity from North America, the Sub Continent and the Far East. There are also an increasing number of flights originating in Southern Africa and South America. Manchester has ambitious plans to develop all cargo volumes from the current levels of 150,000 tonnes per annum. Pangaean Ltd is working with the airport to develop routes from produce, seafood, flower and pharmaceutical supplying regions.

Of course as a major holiday airport, Manchester has unsurpassed short haul links to the produce supplying areas of the countries of the Mediterranean, the Near East and the Canary Islands, plus Iceland - a major fish producer. Our refrigerated vans will quickly transfer loose freight to the centre from the Ground Handing Agents just 100 metres away!

Until now, however, it has been difficult for the importer and exporter of perishable products at Manchester due to the lack of a specialist temperature controlled centre and people with knowledge of how to care for this type of product.

The Location
The building is in an excellent position adjacent to the Ground Handling Agents and Customs. The Manchester Airport World Freight Centre itself is situated on the Motorway Network at Junction 6 of the M56. Distribution Centres of all the major supermarket chains are very close allowing quick entry of the customer’s goods into their national distribution networks – for example Marks and Spencer Crewe, Sainsbury’s Haydock, Tesco Middleton and Asda Skelmersdale. Quick transfers by road to Ireland will be facilitated by excellent links to the ferry ports.

Services
Pangaean Ltd will manage your entire end to end supply chain.

Our aim is to make importation by air as easy as possible for the customer by providing a one stop shop of services. We recognise speed to market to maximise shelf like is paramount for perishables and all our operations will be geared to moving the customers’ goods quickly and smoothly through the supply chain.

If required we will put the customer in touch with freight forwarders in the country of origin and arrange road transport to the final destination. Services offered will be tailored to customer needs from making customs entries, to break bulk of aircraft containers, to any value added activities our customers require such as labelling and sorting of retail units into supermarket trays, or preparation of flowers. These activities will allow distribution direct to your customer. Our partner logistics providers have been selected for their quality, value and specialisation of delivering to different regions of the UK and Ireland. Our specialist pharmaceutical transport partner's vechicles are fitted with Transcan temperature monitoring.

As a Listed Agent we provide a full export service including the cutting of airwaybills and aircraft pallet building.

The Centre
The building comprises a double unit at Manchester Airport’s World Freight Centre. These units have been converted to a chilled facility by building an inner insulated shell with sliding doors and installing air-cooled condensing chillers. This sealed system will ensure minimum temperature fluctuation. A section of roller bed floor in the cool room will allow de-bulking of aircraft containers.

The main warehouse is kept at 4°C. There is also ample ambient storage space.

A blast chiller has been specifically designed. There is minimal distance between the top of the pallet containing you product and the ceiling of the chiller. This means the air is forced through your product not over it, ensuring efficient rapid cooling.

The Name
Why Pangaean (pronounced Panjeean)? - Millions of years ago all the present continents of the Earth were joined together to form the super continent “Pangaea” (Greek for “all Earth”). Now we want to link all the continents together again - to Manchester!
